This is an add-on for the Restrict Content Pro that adds support for restricting bbPress forum and topics to paid members.

While it does not have nearly the robust options that Restrict Content Pro offers for restricting content, this bbPress extension provides the features that 99% of users need: the simple ability to limit forum access to paid subscribers.

You can restrict each forum individually and even individual topics within forums.

I remember I had problem integrating RCP with buddypress would there be an extension for buddypress too?

    • Pippin

      Not at this time, sorry.

  2. Nathan Pinno

Just what I’m looking for (premium forums in bbPress for my users is what I want to offer as part of premium memberships).

  3. Segovia Smith

I see in your screenshot a single check box that allows you to restrict content to premium members, by any chance is it possible to restrict this to only certain membership levels? So forum topic A is linked to Gold and topic B is linked to silver, etc.?

Thanks and keep up the great work.

PS. What plugin are you using to allow me to subscribe to “New posts by email” when I leave a comment? I see that Chris Lema also uses a similar plugin.

    • Pippin

Not at this time, but it is on my todo list.

      The subscribe plugin is Jetpack.

  4. Jason

Any rough timeline for that feature (restricting by member levels)? And/or, can I pay to move it up on your todo list?

    • Pippin

      Not at this time.

What kind of timeframe would you be looking for with custom dev?

    • Jason

      About 2-3 weeks, if possible.

    • Pippin

      Sorry for the slow reply.

Sometime next week might be possible. Still interested?

  5. Moe

It will be great if you could release it in a couple of weeks. We have a new site with multiple forums and would like to allow each forum to specific group of users.
With the current plugin, once a user is assigned to one group, he gets access to all forums instead to a single one. Thanks

Is it possible to give unpaid members read-only access or is it all-or-nothing?

    • Pippin

      It is all or nothing.

  7. Makis

    Hi Pippin.
Is it now possible to make forums private to specific usergroups so that Forum A will only be visible(private of course) to a specific user group while that same user group can access Forum 2.

    Thanks in advance.

    • Makis

Forgot to wish you merry Xmas 🙂

    • Pippin

      Merry Christmas!

    • Pippin

Not at this time but it has been on my todo list for a long time 🙂

    • Makis

hm… is it hard too implement or I can do it myself?
Its a bit urgent thats why I m asking for.

    • Pippin

      It is rather advance, sorry.

    Hi Pippin,

Your 2013 summary is overwhelming! it’s amazing how much you managed to achieve in just one year. Congratulations! it’s really inspiring.
I hope you will be able to find some time to try and advance this plugin so we could restrict forums to specific groups.

BTW, once done, will there be a way for the admin to subscribe the entire group to receive notifications for all forum activities? or maybe with another plugin?…

    Thanks,
    Moe

    • Pippin

      Thank you!

I’m hoping to finally get a big update written for the bbPress add-on sometime in the coming weeks.

  9. Moe Nermoz

That would be wonderful. Looking forward, Thanks!

  10. Moe Nermoz

BTW, it will be great if on top of restricting forums / topics to various membership levels, it will allow to restrict forums / topics to logged in users. So in a case that a non logged-in user will try to read that topic, he will be shown the access error message.

Hey Pippen, Just downloaded the bbPress extension for RCP. It works but was wondering is there a way to make the notice that they need to be a paying member more customizable? It sorta blends in right now and I’d like to make it a little more obvious as well as add a link to the membership page. Thanks.

    • Pippin

Just in terms of the style of the notice?

  12. apfernand

Hi Pippin, I purchased your RCP plugin and I think it’s awesome, however, I got a fatal error when I added the bbPress extension to my membership site. I had to uninstall and delete it in order to access my site again 🙁

    • Pippin

      What was the error?

    • apfernand

A logical question but unfortunately I went into panic mode and deleted the extension right away without copying the actual error message. However, based on your response from an earlier RCP question I asked, I don’t think this extension will allow me to offer different prices based on membership level for the same product (i.e. webinar). Am I correct? If so, there’s no need to pursue the installation error I got when I uploaded the extension. Thanks and sorry for not having included the actual error message in my post.

    • Pippin

      Correct, it will not.

  13. Mark

I am trying to install Restrict Content Pro but i cannot see the menu item on the left of my wordpress after installing, therefore I cannot configure further. I would want to receive payments from my members.

    • Pippin

Have you purchased the full plugin? This page is for the bbPress add-on, which does not function without the main plugin.

  14. tuhinbhuiyan

3 Years and still no BuddyPress + RCP registration role sync/integration?.
    Any info?.

  15. Ewen

    Hi Pippin

Has there been any change to the “anyone can read / only members can write” scenario mentioned earlier in the comments?

    cheers

    • Pippin

Yes. We now support hiding comments from non-active subscribers.
