As of yesterday, I have joined the WordPress.org plugin review team. We are the group of people that moderate all of the plugin submissions to the official plugin repository. This is a volunteer position, but one that I’m very happy to be helping out with.
Every plugin that is submitted to the repository is reviewed for security problems, copyright issues, and other general problems with the plugin.
As everyone knows, there are a lot of bad plugins on the repository, but this is getting much, much better over time, especially as more strict review policies are implemented.
I will be reviewing plugins that are in the queue several times every week and will be doing all I can to help ensure that plugins with security flaws and other problems do not make it into the repository, at least not easily.
By joining the team I should also be able to help get plugins through the queue faster, so if you’ve had to wait a long time for your plugin to be reviewed in the past, the waiting time should be much shorter now, simply due to an extra set of eyes.
that’s exciting! wordpress users everywhere can let out a small sigh of relief!
Happy to see you doing this, Pippin. I know Mika and Otto do quite a bit of plugin review. It seems between more reviewers (which hopefully means potential for more thorough reviews over time) and the ratings system on .org getting some nice updates, some of the plugin repository improvement conversations from a while back are really going into practice. Kudos for your involvement!
Awesome, Pippin!
Awesome, congratulations!
Finding someone who’s a good fit for the current crankypants team is so complicated, it’s taken us … six months? since I started to find another person. But we are getting through things a lot faster now. It used to be weeks, but now we’re down to maybe 7 days 🙂
Thank you!
Great work, Pippin! I’m sure there’ll be lots more discussion about making the plugin review process as robust and open as the theme review process is.
Congratulations Pippin!
Nice work, Pippin. I’m sure it’s a honor to work with the team (and an honor for them to get to work with you!).
I did a few theme reviews a while ago, and I have a lot of respect for those who stick to it, even though people who submit themes (probably plugins too) can be rude and impatient, knowing you’re doing it as a volunteer on your own time.
Congrats Pippin!
That’s incredible news, it would be great to have another top notch reviewer out there.
For the record, I’ve never had a delay with a plugin approval, all seems to take place in no time. But it would be even quicker now. 🙂
Yeah ! that’s good news ! Congrats !
Kudos Pippin, the greater WP community is better off for it!
That is great news!
awesome news!
cause i’ll move some my plugin to wp.org.
It’s really good of you to give up some of your time to this Pippin! Very cool 😀
Hi there,
Happy to hear 🙂
I also want to join the team. Can you tell me how can I? So that I can give a helping hand… 😀
Eagerly waiting for your reply…
You need to be asked to join the review team, though you are of course more than welcome to inquire about it 🙂 Email otto(at)wordpress(dot)org.
How many people are actually on the review team? I find them fast and efficient, that’s for sure.
There are 4-5 (I think) of us that can review plugins, but there are only two of us that review them on a daily basis.
Congratulations Pippin! good to hear that.
Hello Pippin,
We have submitted our WordPress plugin 6 weeks ago, on Feb 12th. Since then, we have never heard back from the review team. We tried to get in touch with the team, to understand if the plugin is in the review process or, on the contrary, something went wrong — but we didn’t succeed. Is there any way to get any information about the review? 6 weeks is a long time, long enough to wonder if the plugin is still on the table or it got lost somewhere. Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
What’s the name of the plugin?
Note, any time you need to ask the review team a question, just send an email to plugins@wordpress.org
Hey Pippin,
I’m curious, how often do you think are plugins rejected?
Probably 1/20 is rejected.
