2012: a Year in Review

2012 has been a great year for me. I expanded my plugin development business, I started a large community-driven plugin project, I contributed to WordPress core and plugins that were not mine, and my wife and I started a family by bringing our first baby girl into the world.

New Microblog for Bad Code

As a WordPress.org plugin reviewer, someone that writes a lot of plugins, and someone that does a lot of support for more than 4 dozen plugins, I see a lot of bad code. Tonight I started a new micro blog specifically for showcasing some of the “gems” I’ve come across.

Full Screen Background Images Pro Gets a Slide Show Option

Full Screen Background Images Pro is a plugin I wrote to add full screen background images to your website. It allows you to set as many images as you want across your site and also lets you set specific photos for individual pages, posts, categories, etc. Two days ago I pushed out an update that…

WordPress.org Plugin and Theme Reviews

During the WordPress Community Summit, Otto announced a new Amazon-like review system for themes and plugins hosted on the WordPress.org repositories. This new system now requires users to leave a review of the plugin or theme before they are allowed to give the plugin or theme a star rating. I’ve recorded a quick demonstration video…

I’m Joining the Plugin Review Team

As of yesterday, I have joined the WordPress.org plugin review team. We are the group of people that moderate all of the plugin submissions to the official plugin repository. This is a volunteer position, but one that I’m very happy to be helping out with.

Weekly Dev Chat for Easy Digital Downloads

Easy Digital Downloads started as my own personal project but has quickly moved to a community project. There are more than 23 developers that have contributed code to the project, and many other developers, users, and designers that have contributed in other ways. One of the ways that I hope to actively promote further community…

The Plugins I Run

Last night WP Beginner sent out a Tweet asking how many plugins people used on their sites. This is one of my favorite questions, simply because I always love to see the response people send back. As I’ve mentioned quite a few times, I’m an avid opponent to the idea that a lot of plugins…

Looking for Development Help with Easy Digital Downloads

Easy Digital Downloads, which is my take on an eCommerce plugin for selling digital products, has been growing rapidly over the last couple of months. In just over three months, it has passed 11.4 thousand downloads and has grown from just 24 downloads per day to nearly 200 per day. Due to this growth, and…

Easy Digital Downloads Websites Gets a Redesign

The official website for Easy Digital Downloads, a plugin for selling digital products, has just gotten a large redesign. The new design features a much simpler layout, better flow of information, and overall better visual appeal.

Modular Plugins Presentation from WordCamp Kansas City, 2012

WordCamp Kansas City, 2012, was this past weekend, and I presented on Modular Plugins. The general take away from my presentation was that WordPress plugins should be developed with extensible code that allows them to be modified and interacted with, without ever changing core plugin code. Keep reading to view the slides from my presentation.

Speaking at WordCamp Kansas City

This weekend, June 1-3, I will be speaking at WordCamp Kansas City, along with 18 other awesome speakers. My presentation will be on the topic of modular plugins. As many of my readers probably know, I am a huge advocate for developing plugins that play friendly with other plugins and themes, and also plugins that…

My Thoughts on PressNomics

PressNomics is the first major non-officially sponsored WordPress event to be organized in the US (perhaps globally). It is designed to be a somewhat exclusive event catered towards the companies and individuals that power the commercial WordPress markets. The commercial market includes theme and plugin shops, hosting companies, and others within the WordPress economy, though…

Rémi Corson Joins My Support Team

I have mentioned him a few times in the past, both in plugin reviews and as the French translator for one or two of my plugins. As of Thursday of last week, Rémi Corson has become to first official member (other than myself) of the Pippin’s Plugins support team.
