This plugin will provide a widget that allows you to display a list of terms from any custom (or built-in) taxonomy with a list of recent posts filed in each term. The terms are displayed in a list with each term’s posts shown in a nested list.

Features

The widget includes several configurable options on a per-widget basis:

  • Widget Title
  • Taxonomy to pull terms from
  • Number of posts to show per term
  • Support for multiple instances

The image on the right represents the way this widget will display on the front end (using the Twenty Ten theme).

    Hello Pippin,

This plugin does not work, when i select from Choose the Taxonomy…and postst from and try to save. It keeps getting back on category. It does not save my select?

i hope you have a solution, thank you

    • Pippin

      Do other widgets save fine?

  3. Gloria Antonelli

I am experiencing the same problem as varan. I selected one of my custom posts from the drop down list on the widget and when I select save it changes right back to category. It will display the tax list.

Also when a used another plugin – Display Widget the Post by Taxonomy Widget output disappears on the page. I deactivated Display Widget and revisited your plugin to re-select my custom tax. It did not display the whole list. I had to revisit the widget again to re-select the custom tax. Again it defaulted to category on save. Then the whole list appeared again.

Hope you can look into this issue as it is just the plugin solution I was interested in.

    with regards!

Gloria, I will look into the issue further tomorrow and see if I can find the cause.

I’ve been using for some time and just updated. Now it doesn’t work. I’m checking to see if I have a backup. The new version is broken, so now the site it’s on is broken. It now displays only the name of the custom categories and does not list the links. This is a fatal flaw. Please don’t release untested updates.

    • Pippin

I assure you, all updates are tested and it was working perfectly fine for me.

Please ignore last comment. I’m having issues with a previously working version of 1.2.

It shows the taxonomy categories, but no longer lists the posts in those categories. Please advise. Thanks!

    • Pippin

Do those categories definitely have posts in them?

    • Sean

They definitely do. I’m wondering if the 3.5 update may be the culprit, as there were changes such as:

*Add ‘term_taxonomy_id’ field handling to WP_Tax_Query::transform_query(), resulting in fewer database queries

Although I can’t imagine that would be it, since nothing appears to be deprecated.

    • Pippin

I’ve just tested it again and it definitely works for me. Can you please deactivate your other plugins? I suspect one of them is conflicting.

The front end menu isn’t working with WP 3.8.1 It bounces slightly on click but doesn’t open. I have version 1.0.1 of posts-by-taxonomy and this works perfectly. When i updated to 1.0.3 i got the issue. Browsers are Firefox and Safari on Mac OS X.

    • Pippin

Could you show me a live URL?

    • Nick

ok i just updated the plugin again at http://asintended.co.uk/test/ the drop down links in the left sidebar are: letterpress, silkscreen, vintage mirrors and wood
