Easy Content Types Gets an Upgrade for WordPress 3.3

WordPress 3.3 was just released, and now, just about 24 hours later, Easy Content Types has gotten an upgrade to fix a couple of bugs present in 3.3. Most notably, the rich editor in meta boxes was completely broken in 3.3, if using Easy Content Types 2.3.6 or earlier. Along with the rich editor bug, Easy Content Types has also received quite a few other small bug fixes, but that’s not what I really want to talk about here. Instead, I’d like to introduce the newest feature to join ECPT’s forces: repeatable meta fields.

Repeatable fields have been the single most requested feature I’ve ever had for Easy Content Types. Essentially, a repeatable field is one that can be, wait for it, repeated, over and over again. They act like regular text inputs, but instead of being limited to one field, you can easily add as many as you want, from inside the post editor. This makes your meta box suddenly a lot more flexible.

Check out a demonstration of the repeatable fields and an explanation of some of the new features / upgrades in Easy Content Types 2.3.7:

If you’re not the video type of person, then here’s a screenshot to give you an idea:

Off the top of my head I was thinking along the lines of small image galleries, Product features and attributes etc. Seems I always want something like this when I need to have complete markup control over a list of items. Will be using this feature extensively.

Product features and attributes is a perfect example of what this is good for.

Is the repeatable field only available on text fields or on any field type?

It’s just text fields at the moment. I’m planning to add repeatable upload fields and others as well soon.

Not sure yet. Sometime in the near future probably. I’ll add it after I finish up my Restrict Content Pro plugin.

Repeatable group sets would be awesome where you can add text and upload an image as a group and repeat that group… if that makes sense…

      On the todo list.

Repeatable sets would be great. I’m thinking of client who has a lot of rental properties and wants to put “specs” like square feet, rent, bedrooms. Or another client who sells gold coins.. mint date, coin designer. Something where the data isn’t always set, but in general specifications.

      Can’t wait for this feature.

It’s on the todo list still :)

Is there a rough ETA on it, I have a site coming up that would use the repeatable group sets perfectly!

No, there’s no an ETA yet. I have some other higher priority items I have to finish first.

Too bad, that’s the feature that would have made me purchase.

You can try out the plugin in my link. A bit of self promotion, but should solve your problem, meaning repeatable groups. (mind you there are fewer features in WCK)
